Things to consider when getting married overseas...

An increasing number of Australian couples are bringing their own Celebrant to perform their ceremony when getting married overseas.  There are practical, legal and financial positives to bringing in an Australian Celebrant to perform your ceremony.

  • Becoming officially married under Foreign Marriage Laws can be an involved process,  with potential difficulty to have the marriage recognised on return to Australia.  It may also involve requirements that would not be necessary if being married in Australia  (eg.  Indonesian Marriage Law requires the recognition of a particular religion).
  • Paperwork and the use of local celebrants can result in substantial additional fees. (commonly in excess of $1200AUD)
  • It can be difficult to secure a local celebrant who can communicate clearly with your wedding party, and accommodate your personal requirements of the ceremony.

Why you should pack your celebrant with your sunscreen and sarongs...

Here's how we can make your wedding day an international success!

  • Tell me to pack my passport and bathers. (I promise, no speedos) and lock your ceremony in.
  • Complete all your legal marriage requirements before you jet off.
  • Adjust to the humidity, have a cocktail, and relax before the most magical day.
    • Experience the ceremony you've always wanted, in the location you've always dreamed of, with your nearest and dearest and an amazing celebrant (me!) who will deliver the goods.
  • Return to Australia,  and make your marriage official with a small, simple Ceremony (or another major celebration! - totally up to you!) , and all the necessary paperwork easily processed.

It's important to know, that an Australian Celebrant cannot perform the official wedding ceremony outside of Australia.

It really comes down to this... if the official paperwork is the reason you're bringing your family and friends together, and your heart is set on an international wedding... then you have to go through Foreign Marriage Law.

If the priority is to experience memorable experience for yourself, and those attending,  where they can enjoy a ceremony that has been created to reflect the love that you have for each other... and the official paperwork is just the icing on the cake... then call me, and I'll be on a plane ready and waiting!

Andrew Pickering MARRIAGE CELEBRANT

What others have to say...

"Thank you Andrew for creating such an incredible ceremony for us. The ceremony was so personalised and relaxed, our guests were asking how many years we have been friends with you for! We are forever grateful for the beautiful memories you have created for us; it was better than we could have ever imagined for ourselves :) xoxo"  Amber-Jade & Cam.

"Despite not being able to legally marry us due to being a same sex couple, Andrew went out of his way to create a beautiful ceremony for us with all the trimmings of a legal ceremony so that we didn’t feel that we were missing out.
Andrew has an extraordinary talent of pulling aspects of your own love story and interweaving it together with beautiful tales of love and relationships to create a beautiful ceremony that will have your guests in tears one moment and in fits of laughter the next.
Andrew was a pleasure to work with and despite only meeting him a few months earlier, his delightful personality, passion and dedication made it feel like he was an old friend we had known for years.
I truely believe that choosing a wedding celebrant is one of the key elements of creating a wedding day to remember and it is without hesitation that I recommend Andrew as the person to bring your love story to life in the ceremony of your dreams.
My wife and I feel very privileged to have been married by Andrew and I know that all future couples who “Vote Yes” for Andrew will be as proud as we were to have Andrew as such as an intergral part of their special day."
Rebecca & Elicia.

"Andrew, thank you so much for delivering such a magical ceremony for us. I was actually quite unsure about choosing a celebrant, as it's one of the most important jobs on the day, but everything you did exceeded my expectations. When you are a couple of science nerds and the first words in your ceremony are "Albert Einstein once said..." you know you have picked someone who truly made the effort to get to know you both as a couple and as individuals. Thank you for working with us and creating such great memories. Oh and so many of the guests also commented on your amazing work, and we had lots of people in tears (not just me)! Thank you again." Penny & Dean.

"All of our family and friends commented on how lovely our ceremony was.  You were approachable, understanding and so clearly loved being there to share our day with us.

We cannot praise Andrew enough and recommend wholeheartedly him as a wedding celebrant.  His subtle and gorgeous personality was so calming.  Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts, we were so blessed to have you share our day."  Justine & Scott Tucker.

"Andrew Pickering performed the most intimate magical ceremony made special not only by his relationship to the couple but by his eloquent and very personal ceremony.  The couple entrusted Andrew with the entire ceremony even their vows  He did not disappoint, drawing silence from the guests as we all became part of the special ceremony.

I as the mother of the bride would not hesitate to recommend Andrew to perform any type of ceremony as his attention to detail, his emotion and awareness of the couple and the entire occasion was outstanding."  Cheryl Shaw.

"We could not recommend Andrew enough, from the moment we first met with him we knew he was our Celebrant. Andrew really made our Ceremony custom to us, I could not have done it better nor could anyone else.
He took our guests through our story from when we first met and included our furchild and all other things/people we cherished, he had moment that made everyone (including us) laugh, smile and cry.
All of our guests raved about you, your professionalism, your sense of humor and your good hair :P
If you are looking for a Celebrant who goes above and beyond, customise it 110% to you, and adds a bit of humor then Andrew is the one for you."
 Chantelle Stapleton

"Absolute legend! Couldn't of imagined it to turn out so well, cant not thank you enough! So many guest were blown away by the amazing job you did!!"  Andrea Bain.

"What a wonderful relaxed way to book our wedding with Andrew Pickering.  Champers & croquet on the lawn whilst we discussed our plans together.  Andrew is super efficient, so very welcoming & so much fun.  You made the planning super easy too.  It was like nibbles & drinks with really good friends.  If you want a wedding with that personal touch Andrew Pickering is the one you should choose." Louise & Scott Raffaele.
